Messy Tired Love is a devotional for moms that connects real life mom moments to the truth of the gospel. And kids sure do change things, don’t they? My house is messier and I’m way more tired than my pre-mom years, yet my heart is overflowing with God’s love in a way that I didn’t understand before. I’m a proud momma of three sweet blessings. If you told me five years ago that I’d be the author of a devotional for moms, I’d think you must have mistaken my future self for someone else. God’s plan is always better than mine, and I am so excited to share my experience and lessons learned with you. I’m an open book and am a strong believer in community, especially among moms, so I hope you’ll laugh, cry and share your story with me too!
Kristina’s Back Story
If you told me a few years ago that I would be writing devotionals for Christian moms, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. So much has changed in a relatively short amount of time, that God obviously has different plans for me than I had for myself.
My life was turned upside down a few years ago when I was required to relocate for my job a week after coming back from maternity leave with my first born. Considering my in-balanced hormones, tough time to adjusting to a baby, and the fact that my husband, Matthew, was still in his PhD program (Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology) at The Ohio State University, I said no to moving across the country. Ever since then, I haven’t had one ounce of control in my life and it’s been tough to trust God when things aren’t going my way. I was bitter and angry about losing my job but became a business consultant and freelance writer for a handful of clients that at least helped to pay the bills. Despite our fervent prayers to stay put in Columbus, Ohio, there were no job opportunities presenting themselves to Matthew after graduation. We decided that God must be answering our prayers differently than we would like, and we were going to have to move. Doors flew open left and right and, long story short, we moved our to San Diego, California so Matthew can complete his PostDoc at UCSD.
In the whirlwind of moving and getting settled in our new home, I wasn’t homesick right away. It hit me three or four months in when we had no friends or family rotating in and out of our home like we were used to in Ohio. It was tough being a mom to little ones when we are so far from those we are closest to. We had to trust God completely because nothing in life certain.
Devotionals for Christian Moms: Part of God’s Plan
But here’ what I can tell you for certain: God is God in Ohio and in California. And wherever you live too. It was difficult, but finding joy in Christ regardless of our circumstances is something we continue to learn. During our time in California, God provided the perfect environment and opportunity for me to start Messy Tired Love. It’s all a part of God’s plan.
God chose to answer our prayers to move back to Ohio and we are beyond grateful. If you knock on my door in Columbus, you’ll likely find me cooking with my little chefs, enjoying our lovely backyard, eating something chocolate, or laughing with my amazing husband.
Since becoming a mother, I decided to listen to God’s calling, be brave, and start writing devotionals for Christian moms in hopes that I can discipleship moms like you where you are and in what you’re going through.
