Are you a grateful momma?
If the answer is yes, do others know you are a grateful momma?
If we stop and think about this, we might not want to be honest about the answer. As busy, exhausted moms that live in messy homes while doing mundane, thankless work – gratitude is often not the reality of our hearts.
What does true, heart-penetrating gratitude look like?
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7 (NIV)
True, heart-penetrating gratitude is to rejoice in the Lord always.
In every situation. Real mom life translation: when the baby won’t stop crying, when poop is on your hands, when your teenager just slammed the door in your face, when a massive pile of dirty dishes is staring you down at eye level, when you feel like your life is nothing more than errands and chores then repeat.
With thanksgiving. Real mom life translation: All of those situations listed above should be done and prayed about with thankfulness in your words and in your heart. No complaining. No arguing. No eye rolling.
The result is peace. Real mom life translation: Your body might still be exhausted and your house might still be a mess but your soul will be at peace.
Being a grateful momma means we are rejoicing in the Lord in every situation, with thanksgiving. The result is peace that is unfathomable. I want that! Do you?

Hi Kristina! I absolutely love how you’ve given the “real mom life translation”. Haha! That is so catchy. But this is so good. I think it’s so easy to not be grateful in the midst of the daily mom tasks. I was watching Rachel Cruze the other day at the Marriage + Money Conference and she mentioned that every night she journals 3 things that she’s grateful for. It can be the most random things. I love that because it keeps us thankful for even the little things! And thankfulness fights discontentment, regret, anxiety, etc. This was so good. Thank you!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Dominique! We’d love to have you join the discussion next week!
I am so messy and tired right now I can’t think! Thank you, God, for the rest of each night and the refreshment that brings. When the kids were little I rejoiced in bedtime. The day was done I thanked the Lord for a warm cozy bed and sleeping babies.
I feel ya! We can all relate and need a little push to remember what to be grateful for. 🙂
