Strengthen Your Bible Reading Habit with the He Reads Truth Bible

Building a Bible reading habit can be tough for busy parents. Thanks to the help of my She Reads Truth bible, I’ve built a decent habit of reading my Bible in the day-to-day routine of motherhood. You can read how, here. Since this specific Bible has helped me tremendously, I jumped at the chance to review the He Reads Truth bible for men. I was hopeful that I could confidently say to a man of faith, “this resource will strengthen your Bible reading habit”.

When my husband, Matthew, saw that it came in the mail, he volunteered to give his own review of the Bible. “After all, it’s HE reads truth, right?” Well, yep. He’s got me there. So I left the review of this Bible to him.

Here’s what he had to say about the He Reads Truth Bible. I was sent a copy of this Bible for free in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are, well, my husband’s!

A Review Of The He Reads Truth Bible To Strengthen Your Bible Reading Habit

At my attempt to be a productive contributor to society, most importantly one that has given himself to Christ, I am at a constant struggle with constants. With the forever-wavering demands at home, work, and service I have recognized the importance of keeping the important things constant- the habits that allow God to form me continuously from the inside-out. One of these habits, that has been made clear to me by both my mentors and my
experience, is the productive, daily study of the Scripture. This is where the foundation of my life can be further solidified, somehow freshly with each recurrence. The Bible in Psalm 1 says that those who take joy in the Lord in
this way are “…like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in season…” (Psalm 1:3a). In keeping a Bible-reading habit despite the chaos of life we stand upon a solid ground, growing richly and bearing fruit, constantly being reminded of our place as a people renewed by Christ in a fallen world.

Though this all sounds well and good, we sometimes need a little help and structure to augment our time in the Word. The He Reads Truth Bible provides this throughout, and does so while tailoring to the particularities of us men.

The He Reads Truth Bible is firstly a Christian Standard Bible (CSB) translation, which is a good balance between readability and accuracy to the original text. The translation is somewhere in between the New International Version (NIV) and the English Standard Version (ESV), if you’re familiar with those. There is also not an overwhelming amount of scholarly commentary and summary, which for me reduces the clutter for the times I simply want to “dive into” the word and resist my academic temptation. That being said, each book has a short summary of the timeline, background and purpose, and is peppered with pages of graphics, maps, and tables that provide a good understanding of context, history, and unity of the scriptures.

What I loved most is that each book has a section called “Read & Understand” that provides a daily structured study of the book. Rather than only a checklist that you read the verses, this reading plan uniquely provides a “Going Deeper” column where it provides other related Bible verses from both testaments. The back of the book also has the M’Cheyne reading plan that pairs Old and New Testaments together for four chapters a day.

The He Reads Truth Bible has just enough resources to help with reading through the inerrant Word of God. Tailored to men, there are no focused devotional stories or frilly add-ons. If you are a note-taker (it helps me pay
attention to details) there is sufficient columns on either side of the page.
I think the He Reads Truth Bible will be my new morning go-to, packaged beautifully in a hardback (in green or charcoal cloth, brown or black leather) and with a beautiful font (I am a font nerd). I am looking forward to how this Bible will help keep God’s word constant in my life.
